Congratulation Malaysia Football Team for the 3-0 win against Indonesia. But several embarrassing moment do happened in the match which I would say spoiled the win. I don’t know weather the Malaysian fan or Indonesian fan do it but you need to see this.

Malaysia Defeats Indonesia Thanks to Laser-Shooting Soccer Fans (Updated)

As soon as the team took to the pitch, they were bombarded with lasers to the point where they literally walked off in the 54th minute. No, this wasn't Tron, dear readers, it was a soccer match. With laser pens!

The protesting team was Indonesia. They were playing Malaysia in the Asean Football Federation Cup finals first leg, and it would be the second time Malaysian fans attacked a team with lasers. Earlier, Vietnam lost 0-2 to Malaysia and complained of the very same thing.

Indonesia eventually returned to play the game out, but ultimately lost 0-3, possibly due to blindness. Whether it was from rage or the Malaysian laser pens we may never know.

Update: Is this an epidemic? Several readers have chimed in this evening to say that in previous matches Indonesian fans were also guilty of shooting opposing players in the face with lasers. Check out the 4:05 minute mark in this video, provided by reader Ikhwan:

BBQ Party and Semester 2

Hello guys. Quick updates here. I’ve been really busy lately. My old friends request me to organize a last minute BBQ party yesterday (weekend) which is a week after my new Sem start. But I got to say, it really worth it. It really was a fun night! Thanks a lot to Mat. We work as a team to make this a reality. Thanks to Memot for sponsoring the drinks. it was a night to remember!

GD Tutorial: Episode 4 (Hardware)

Hello guys. I’m back for more. In this week tutorial, we’ll be talking about the hardware stuff for graphic design. I got to say, there are thousand of these stuff that will help you make your work EASIER. Not better. Your work won’t get any better without creativity. Some basic tolls of course screen, tablet pen, graphic card, and memory. But we’ll be taking these aspect more seriously than they actually are.

First, before we get into this topic deeply, I want you all to understand that there are no such thing as best keyboard or best mouse for graphic design or anything. When come to this topic, it actually a very personal topic. To get the best option actually is up to your own personal preferences. Example, for me, I like the big, lase, ergonomic mouse from Logitech and Microsoft. Some of you might don’t like this. Some of you like the small foldable mouse. The point here is when come the the hardware, you really need to feel it by yourself weather you are comfortable with it or not. But remember, before go out and buy something, always do your homework first on the reliability on the thing that you want to buy. Okay, enough about that. Let’s move on.

Screen

The is consider one of the most important aspect in graphic design. Remember:

1) Try to get big screen with high resolution
2) Get the screen with accurate colour management profile

One of the best screen I’ve seen out there is the 27” Dell UltraSharp U2711. I’ve used this monitor before and of course not mine, I used this when I was working in my friends studio. The white is so white, the black is so black, and the colour is so vibrant. I love it! But the price is around RM 2699 which is quite expensive for me. But there is some other option like the 23” Dell Ultrasharp. I’ve never seen it before but from what I heard, it is pretty descent for a 23” monitor. And the price is just around RM 600+ which is quite affordable!

Anyway, my point I actually want to make is that a graphic designer really need a big screen with high resolution. Believe me on this. It is really painful to work on a small screen since…. you know… it’s just hard.

Graphic Card/RAM/CPU

Pay attention to this if you are a speed freak. Actually, software like Photoshop is very CPU (Central Processing Unit a.k.a processor) and GPU (Graphic Processing Unit a.k.a graphic processor) heavy. Editing software is a resources eater. To get the optimum performance from your hardware, first you will need to make sure that it wasn’t bottlenecking the stuff in your machine. You will need to find a perfect balance between hardware - hardware, and also software – hardware. Then you’ll get the optimized system. It easy actually if you already the concept of computer hardware. A powerful CPU must be paired with a powerful graphic card and powerful RAM. if not, the slower stuff in your computer will slow down your CPU. This also applied to graphic card, RAM and software. The video below will best demonstrate you what actually bottle neck is and how to avoid them.

And also always remember that editing software is always will eat up your RAM as much as they can. So, if your asking my suggestion, I would say 4 GB is a good point to choose on. But if just for fun usage, 2 GB will do just fine. It actually depends on the project that you are working on. If it’s a big size image, best to work on high capacity RAM. If it is just a small image, a little amount of RAM is enough. The more is better.

Input device

Don’t ever forget the most important device in graphic design which is called Pen and Paper. Even though you are a digital artist, pen and paper is really important to sketch out your idea. And the good thing is when you are converting your idea into digital format, the idea will just get better and better when improvement made in the process of converting. “What if I can’t draw?” No problem. You actually can. You just don’t try. In paper, you don’t have to draw you sketch perfectly. If so, what’s the point of using computer in graphic design right? As long as you, yourself can understand the drawing, if’s fine.

Talking about converting into digital format. There are so many tools that you can use to do this. he most common one the using the scanner. The second one is by using the tablet. But tablet is unnecessary for beginner. Just using scanner is just enough. I have use tablet before. One of the best one is the tablet from Wacom. This will cost you some money but again, for me, I think it is just unnecessary unless you are the really2 pro designer that make RM15k a month.

After watching and reading tonnes of review on the Blackberry Torch 9800, I’ve came up with my own opinion on this awesome phone.

Attractive Features
This phone have all the power you need. The battery will get you through the day. It will do a straight 5.5 hours on GSM network signal and up to 5.8 UMTS network signal. That not enough for you? You’re kidding me. Nobody in the world talk for 5 hour straight. You must be crazy enough to do that. This phone have 18 days of standby time. This means that if you didn’t used the phone, the phone battery will last about 18 days. That’s a pretty long time for a phone I got to say. Music playback is approximately about 30 hours. Still not enough for you? C’mon guys. Name me one person who listen to music for 30 hours straight. It does a 6 hour hours straight on video playback. Well, video buffering does require lots of processing power. But, to me, and I think for most of us too, this is more than enough already. Which is really good to me.

Memory
This phone 512 MB of RAM. Mobile phone also have RAM. Don’t you know that? This phone have 4 GB of storage space on board and supplied with 4 GB memory card which can be expandable up to 32 GB. That a lot of space.

In practical use
Ok2. Let’s just stop talking about the on paper stuff about this phone. If you want to know more about the technical stuff about this phone, click BlackBerry Torch 9800. Let’s talk about the practical stuff on this phone. The very first feature that you will notice on this phone is the large multitouch screen. Yeah, it is large for a Blackberry device. And it multitouch too! You cab expect all the multi touch gesture would do a a multitouch device like the pinch-to-zoom and all that kind of stuff. The other feature is the QWERTY keyboard that you see on the previous Blackberry devices. The keyboard on the Torch is also the thinnest keyboard design in the BlackBerry platform and extremely comfortable to type on. It already has the multitouch capabilities. So why does it need the hardware version of the keyboard itself? For some user, just using the screen only is the best solution for them. But for some user like me, I like it to be hardware oriented keyboard so that I can type on the phone without looking at the phone itself. For example, when I’m in a class or when in bed. This is what the Torch is all about. This feature is really is an impressive to me. I know some of you might say you’ve seen some devices that have this kind of functionality already. But the point is how well the multitouch performs on those devices? I have seen some too but it’s a single touch device and the screen is not very touchable too. I mean, it is quite hard to use the touch feature on that phone. On this device, you will get the full and proper multitouch experience like what I said previously. Scroll on web pages smoothly, flip through menu, pinch to zoom the picture. It’s just flawless. Second of all, the fact that this device uses the BlackBerry 6 OS also an interesting features for me. “A good device is a device that have good both hardware and software design”. The quote really represents this device. The BlackBerry 6 OS is just fast and easy to use. It also includes some advance feature that you can personalize it by yourself. The software side of this phone is just fits most people needs. Word processing, note taking, planner, email, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, multimedia experience. Just name it, this BlackBerry Torch 9800 can do it. Just don’t mention all the editing stuff like Photoshop and After Effect. Who would want to do some Photoshop on screen this big? This awesome OS can do multitask! Nice! Switch between Apps flawlessly. And the browser which provided on this phone does support multi-Tab browsing experience. Perfect tools for a person lime me of course. BTW, I got to admit that this phone is a bit heavy compare to other BlackBerry devices, but the weight actually makes it feels sturdy and solid when you hold it in your hand. You got to hold it to feel it. Its a high quality device which equipped with amazing 5MP camera. What more can I say.

I highly recommend this phone for you guys especially to those who is in the Tech industry. If you want to get it, make sure you get it from Celcom because they offer the best price for this phone in this country. And not to mention, best customer support for phone too with widest coverage in Malaysia.

Hello guys. I’m back for more. But this time not with some GD Tutorial. I’m really sorry for this. My area have been hilted by the massive flood. I’m lucky enough that the house the I live in for my study period have not encountered face to face fight with the flood. But the flood affect my lifestyle indirectly. The whole electrical system in this area has been shut down completely to prevent major damage according to TNB. It has already been 2 days since the power is shut down. ARGHH! No electricity! Chaos to a tech dependence person like me! I’m struggling to find electric source. So, I’m so sorry guy for not able to post some tutorial this week. But I promise you guys that I will post some bonus stuff next week as an apology to you guys. So stay tune. I got to go. My laptop battery is running really low. Bye for now.

GD Tutorial: Episode 3 (Basic Photoshop Tools)

This is a quick summary of Photoshop’s Tools palette with a description of each tool’s functions and shortcuts. Great for those brand new to Photoshop.

I decided to start at the beginning. The very beginning. For those people who just “picked up” a copy of Photoshop and have no idea what to do with it. The keyboard shortcut is in ( ).

Rectangular Marquee Tool (M)
Use this tool to make selections on your image, in a rectangular shape. This changes the area of your image that is affected by other tools or actions to be within the defined shape. Holding the [Shift] key while dragging your selection, restricts the shape to a perfect square. Holding the [Alt] key while dragging sets the centre of the rectangle to where your cursor started.

Move Tool (V)
Use this tool to, well, move things. Usually you use it to move a Layer around after it has been placed. Hold the [Shift] key to limit the movements to vertical/horizontal.

Polygon Lasso Tool (L)
Ok, this should be the Lasso Tool, but I use the Polygon Lasso a lot more often. Use this to draw selections in whatever shape you would like. To close the selection, either click on the beginning point (you’ll see the cursor change when you’re on it), or just double-click. When holding the [Ctrl] key, you’ll see the cursor change, and the next time you click, it will close your selection.

Magic Wand Tool (W)
Use this to select a color range. It will select the block of color, or transparency, based on wherever you click. In the Options Bar at the top, you can change the Tolerance to make your selections more/less precise.

Crop Tool (C)
The Crop Tool works similarly to the Rectangular Marquee tool (see above if you have no short-term memory). The difference is when you press the [Enter/Return] key, it crops your image to the size of the box. Any information that was on the outside of the box is now gone. Not permanently, you can still undo.

Slice Tool (K)
This is used mostly for building websites, or splitting up one image into smaller ones when saving out. It’s kind of an advanced tool, and since you’re in here for the basics, we’ll kind of skip over it. Kinda makes you mad I made you read all that for nothing, huh?

Healing Brush Tool (J)
This is a really useful tool. Mildly advanced. You can use this tool to repair scratches and specs and stuff like that on images. It works like the Brush tool (see below). You choose your cursor size, then holding the [Alt] key, you select a nice/clean area of your image. Let go of the [Alt] key and paint over the bad area. It basically copies the info from the first area to the second, in the form of the Brush tool. Only, at the end, it averages the information, so it blends.

Brush Tool (B)
This is one of the first tools ever. It’s what Photoshop is based off of. Well, not really, but it’s pretty basic. It paints one your image, in whatever color you have selected, and whatever size you have selected. There’s a lot of options for it, but this is basic, so you don’t get to learn them. Ha.

Clone Stamp Tool (S)
This is very similar to the Healing Brush Tool (see above). You use it the exact same way, except this tool doesn’t blend at the end. It’s a direct copy of the information from the first selected area to the second. When you learn to use both of these tools together in perfect harmony, you will be a Photoshop MASTA! Not really, it’s just less irritating.

History Brush Tool (H)
This tool works just like the Brush Tool (see above) except the information that it paints with is from the original state of your image. If you go Window>History, you can see the History Palette. The History Brush tool paints with the information from whatever History state is selected.

Eraser Tool (E)
This is the anti-Brush tool. It works like an eraser (duh) and erases whatever information wherever you click and drag it. If you’re on a Layer, it will erase the information transparent. If you are on the background layer, it erases with whatever secondary color you have selected.

Gradient Tool (G)
You can use this to make a gradiation of colors. Gradiation doesn’t appear to be a word, but it makes sense anyway. It creates a blending of your foreground color and background color when you click and drag it. Like a gradient.

Blur Tool (R)
The Blur tool is cool. It makes things blurry. Click and drag to make things blurry. The more you click and drag, the blurrier things get.

Dodge Tool (O)
This tool isn’t as crappy as the car brand. It’s actually used to lighten whatever area you use it on. As long as it is not absolute black. Absolute black won’t lighten.

Path Selection Tool (A)
You use this tool when working with paths. Since this is all about the basics, I won’t go into details. It’s related to the Pen Tool (see below) though.

Horizontal Type Tool (T)
It makes type. Or text. Or whatever you want to call it. You can click a single point, and start typing right away. Or you can click and drag to make a bounding box of where your text/type goes. There’s a lot of options for the Type Tool. Just play around, it’s fairly straight-forward.

Pen Tool (P)
I mentioned this tool above. It’s for creating paths, in which you would use the Path Selection Tool to select the path. Paths can be used in a few different ways, mostly to create clipping paths, or to create selections. You use the tool by clicking to add a point. If you click and drag, it will change the shape of your path, allowing you to bend and shape the path for accurate selections and such.

Rectangle Tool (U)
By default it draws a Shape Layer in the form of a rectangle. It fills the rectangle with whatever foreground color you have selected. It’s pretty complicated, don’t hurt yourself with this one.

Notes Tool (N)
Like post-it notes, but digital. You can use this tool to add small little note boxes to your image. These are useful if you’re very forgetful or if you’re sharing your Photoshop file with someone else. I’m pretty sure it only works with .PSD files.

Eyedropper Tool (I)
This tool works by changing your foreground color to whatever color you click on. Holding the [Alt] key will change your background color.

Hand Tool (T)
You can really make short work of your job with the Hand Tool. It’s for moving your entire image within a window. So if you’re zoomed in and your image area is larger than the window, you can use the Hand Tool to navigate around your image. Just click and drag. You can get to this tool at any time when using any other tool by pressing and holding the [Spacebar].

Zoom Tool (Z)
Pretty obvious what this tool does. It allows you to zoom into your image. Don’t be dumb, it doesn’t actually change the size of your image. Hold the [Alt] key to zoom out. Holding the [Shift] key will zoom all of the windows you have open at the same time. Double-click on the Zoom Tool in the palette to go back to 100% view.

BONUS!!
These are your color boxes. Foreground (in the front) and Background (in the back). Click on either one to bring up the color select dialog box.

GD Tutorial: Episode 2 (Graphic Editing Software)

Hey guys. I’m back for more. Thanks for all your support on last GD Tutorial. Really appreciate it. FYI, I’ve got lots of email feedback from last post. I am really glad if you post it on the comment section below instead of send it straight to my email so that other people can see your brilliant question and comment. Sharing is caring.

One of the question posted to me is relating to the last post is:

“Is can I change the picture I snapped from my camera into vector image format?”

-DONT-WANT-TO-BE-KNOWN

The answer is NO. It is because the sensor in your camera capture the light from the lens in pixel quantity. Vector image is not based on pixel quantity. That is why it doesn’t get pixelated. BUT if you are designing a logo (or something like that), you still can change it to vector by using Adobe Illustrator. This case happened to me when a client ask me to design a big size banner but they didn’t give me the high resolution/vector image of their company logo. I did asked the logo from them but the didn’t have the soft copy of their own logo. Clearly, the deisgner who design the logo for them is bad by not providing the soft copy of the logo after designing it. What? I’m just saying....

Anyway, to solve this problem, I used the tool in Adobe Illustrator called Live Trace. It basically convert the logo into vector format. Not going to show you a demo here. But I will in future tutorial.

Okey, Let’s move on to our GD Tutorial Series this week. We will be talking about SOFTWARE. As most of you probably know already by now, there are thousand of software for graphic design and photo editing. Some are freeware, some are payware and some are shareware.

PHOTOSHOP

One of the most popular graphic editing software in the market right now is of course Adobe Photoshop and the latest update of the Photoshop is Adobe Photoshop CS5. But everyone agreed that Photoshop is way too expensive for a home user (you can get pirate copy of it but lets just not do that).

GIMP

So for the home user who feels bad using pirated copy of photoshop, there are alternatives to that. And the software is called GIMP. I have no boubt that GIMP is absolutely the most powerful alternative you can get. It is almost an exact copy of photoshop with different inferface. Infact, if you do already know the basic term in Graphic Design, it will be a smooth transition for you. But still, expect a little lerning curve when using GIMP. C’mon, in new environment you will need to learn something new.

Eventhough it is open source (free), some people just underestimate the power of GIMP way before they use it. It happened to me though. Back when I was designing for my client, there was a meeting between me and the client, and I just forgot to bring my LAPTOP with me. Its terrible. But luckily, I do have the soft copy of the design in my thumb drive. The only option for me was to use the client’s laptop which is running Ubuntu OS (GIMP support many mian os in the world). I was shocked though. I’m lucky enough that day that the Ubuntu does come with GIMP installed. So, I just plug my thumb drive in and BOOM. There you go. The design is there and the client is happy. There were some text blending option that need to be corrected but I’m lucky enough the client is very happy with the design.

Paint.NET

Relax. It’s not the typical Paint Application that installed in your Windows OS. This one is a bit more advance in terms of functionality. It stay simple and easy to use. Just add up more functionality to the program. Click lthe link if you want to try it out. http://www.getpaint.net/download.html The thing that I’m impressed by this software is that the size of the application it self. Just 3.5mb download and you are ready to go. Amazing isn’t it?

EXPERIENCE & THOUGHTS: I started to get my self involve in graphic design since i was in 10 years old. When I grew older and my talent start to shine, many people come to me and asked me to teach them the basic of graphic design. But most of them over looked about the software aspect in learning curve phase. They always wanted to have the latest version of photoshop. It is pretty pointless to them to have the latest software available which consume more resource from their computer and in indirect way, will slow your computer down. What do I mean by pointless is that they don’t even know the latest feature that the latest software offers to them. They always have this “bottleneck” stuck in their head. My point here is latest software won’t guarentee you the best product if you don’t know how to use it the correct way. For you begineers out there, remember, GENERATING CREATIVE IDEA IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN USING THE BEST SOFTWARE OUT THERE. I’ve seen many graphic designers that use Paint.NET and GIMP and they produce much better product than the top software on the market right now. Another point I want to highlight here is IT IS YOU WHO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE, NOT THE SOFTWARE THAT YOU ARE USING. Even Chase Jarvis (Photographer) also said that but in different context.

As picture shown below, my friend, Farhan just use basic editing program and can still achieve result like this. With a little bit of tweaking, this picture will looks more realistic.

So that’s all folks. Just reading form 1 source isn’t going to make you any better in graphic design. Do some homework on Google.

GD Tutorial: Episode 1 (Vector Graphic)

I'll try to make it as simple as possible. So, before we dive deep into the sea of graphic design, it is very important to understand the basic of graphics. In Digital Graphic design, there are 2 type of graphic that poeple often take it lightly. This is really inportant for web developers and derious graphic designers to understand. If you are not in either category and just using graphic editor software just for fun, you can skip this step.

The 2 types are Vector Graphic and Bitmap. Basically, it's a 2 different format of image wth thier own functionality. The major difference is when you zoom in you picture, the vector graphic (mostly .png file) format wont get pixelated. But the bitmap (mostly .jpg and .gif file) format will straight away get pixelated
.

See, the difference is very obvious. As you start designing, you will notice how important this topic is especially when you are editing a High-Resolution Image. Believe me, it happend to me and thousands of people asked me about this.

Why Choose Bitmap over Vector?
Storage size. Vector consume more size that Bitmap image. Reason? It support lots more colours compare to JPG (depends on your setting).

Bonus feature is Vector formatted image can preserve Alpha Channel in your image. Meaning it preserve the transparency of your image. Most web developers really like this feature.

So does that meaning JPG is a bad option for storing image?
Not at all actually. Besides from having a small storing space, JPG also have acceptable quality and for non-trained eye for graphic design, they said it's brilliant. But because of JPG do use the compression just like the .zip file, repeated copying of the file will definately affect the image and quality of your picture. Some say it is because of the noise in the digital signal. I don't know but it might be true. Just google it if you want to know in detail. But the decrease in detail is not very noticable. It will definately won’t be noticable for most of the time and for most of the users.

Mom tell me that I can't take chocolate anymore. It's very dangerous food to eat now. The story starts when my father's friend sister(teen) who used to love choco very much died because of chocolate!

The medical crew did an investigation on her body to see what's the prob actually. After the investigation, they found out that there are some kind of cacing (worms in English) in her stomach that constantly 'eating' her blood. That's the main cause of her death.

That news just freaks me out because I'm a CHOCO LOVERS too. Have to make a big change now. Just a reminder/info to all of you out there and to myself of course.

BTW, the Alert and Terrain up there is just some quotes from most aircraft in the world indicating a danger situation. I'm passionate about aviation. Haha.

This time I wanna talk something about TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED. Especially in Graphic Design. After doing some research on the charges that Graphic Designer takes for their work, I came out with 1 simple conclusion. Malaysians take it for granted. Believe me, I'm not the only one who say this. Most of Graphic Designers in Malaysia do. To prove it, go to the LeBOSS Restaurant and see the frame on the Creative Studio side. Just Google designers forum in Malaysia and you'll see. When I compare the standard and quality of Malaysian Design with the western country Design, the quality is almost the same for the most part. Yet, Designers in the western countries still getting a lot (I mean massive!) of appreciation from the people. In Malaysia, designers gets extremely cheap pay with very little appreciation. The mentality is the main problem here. They didn't think how much effort we are putting in to make the design looks like what it suppose to look like. They just think they want everything cheap. That's very wrong to me. Like the Apple Company, why their laptop and desktop are almost double price compared to the normal PC? It is because they are not taking things for granted. So do the buyers(well... mostly). Why other company failed to "produce" the fanboy tag for their company as good as Apple do? It simple. Don't take things for granted.

Graphic Design is serious thing for me. We take care of everything from Typography, Color, Texture, Shapes, Lighting, everything you can name it in graphic design. And its not an easy things to do. That is why not everybody is a good graphic designer.

I went to school today. What?!

Yeah. You heard me right. I went to school. Sukhdave went with me to. Saja ja actually. We want to see Sir Fletcher first before we go to the "Glamorous" Kem Waja Diri as faci jemputan. We want to know the plan to bully the peserta. Haha...

Actually the plan is not like tat. Anchalee and Aina first decide to go with us to the school & the tapat perkhemahan but theres a last minuter cancelation bcoz sumthing happened n they couldnt go. So, me n Dave go to school in the morning. Met Sir and do all stuff. Visit Wong during launch. Go the the tapak perkhemahan.

On the way there, we actually get lost... We got the not-so-accurate map. Haha... Sesat skali trus trus tnya orang. haha. Nk p tempat perkhemahan, tp smpai kat tmpat memancing. haha. Anyways, the place actually quite ok for the activity. Not so comfortable laa. But who cares? That's what we called camp. not home. U know what I mean.

Hey guys, Ramadhan is leaving us already. What have it changes you? If nothing, you better do something. Recently, I’v met several adult person (about 40+) and they said they tak puasa sebab tak tahan, tak larat, letih, and macam nak mati. Shocking huh?! They only puasa 9 days in Ramadhan. Actually, if you all rasa tak larat time puasa, its just our mind saying that. Not our body. Bcoz from what I know, our body will produce somekind of hormone that will allow our body to use the fats that we have as the energy source. When this happends, the feelings of lack of energy won’t truely felt by us. That exactly how my boilogy teacher tells me. Allah had designed a PERFECT BODY SYSTEM for us and IT IS DESIGN TO SURVIVE IN RAMADHAN. So, think about it. My 11 years old brother also didn’t miss any day in Ramadhan tak puasa. Shame on you who didn’t puasa. Nasib baik I tak mention their name. If I do, they really…. you know what will they feel… Haha….

I was browsing the internet using my very old HP Laptop. I got it about 6 years ago I guess... It have 1.70 GHz processor Intel Centrino, 256Mb of memory, 80GB of hard disk, running XP... I oredy consider it as netbook now... You know, the amount of memory it have, very out dated. Planning to upgrade the RAM soon...

Ok. back to the topic. when I was browsing the net using this laptop, I open the my fav web browser, CHROME, and the music player, WMP (Windows Media Player 11). I

found tat WMP really eats up some of the m

emory and makes everything on the desktop slows down. I close it and start to find other media player that 'lighter' than WMP. I end up doing some research on

As you all already know, SPM Trial is just around the coner. I mean it really near. just 6 days left to make any preparetion. That’s why I wasn’t online quite frequent these days.

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Letter to the Leaders out there...

Failure is essential to success. Without failing, big breakthroughs or new innovations do not happen

WE all fear failure. In fact, Singapore, has an entire industry dedicated to ensuring that people fear failure and never lose called “kiasu-ism”.

In the business world, companies strive to achieve perfection – building zero defect organisations, and embracing initiatives like Six Sigma to ensure that there is no room for failure.

Failure is bad and we have been taught to distance ourselves from failure.

Yet, if you look back at history, great breakthroughs are dependent on failures. In fact, great achievers are born out of failures. Michael Jordan, The Beatles, Walt Disney, Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Edison all had one big thing in common – they were major failures before success came to them.

Michael Jordan, probably the greatest basketball player in history, almost quit the game in high school when he was dropped from the senior team.

He described that day as the worst day of his life. Yet, it marked an important day in Jordan’s life as he decided (after a lot of tears and crying) that he would learn from his failure and make the team the following year.

The Beatles were turned down by Decca Records and were told “We don’t like your sound, and ‘guitar music’ is on the way out”. Capitol Records also rejected them a few years later. Instead of giving up and feeling dejected, they kept going and eventually went on to sell millions of records.

Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper early on in his career because he lacked imagination and was not creative. Yet he turned that failure to build one of the most creative companies in the world – Disney.

In school, his teacher told Thomas Edison that he was too stupid to learn anything. Yet, he became one of the greatest inventors of all time and the founder of General Electric (GE).

The very first time Edison was working on his light bulb experiment and failed, he made notes of his failure. He then made adjustments and tried again and again and again. It took him about 10,000 experiments to invent the perfect set-up for the electric light bulb. To quote him, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

All these stories on failure make one simple point – failure is essential to success. Without failing, big breakthroughs or new innovations do not happen.

Learning from failure is what makes great leaders who they are. Thomas Watson, the founder of IBM, once declared: “That’s where success lies – on the far side of failure.”

So, if failure is so pertinent to success, why do we not embrace it? In fact, why don’t we build failure into our organisations, our leadership development programmes and even our product development processes?

At GE, not only was failure funded for in the new product development process termed “breakthrough innovation”, they also ensured failure was built into the talent management process.

While I was working at GE, I was moved around from role to role, being forced to experience numerous failures but encouraged to learn and grow from these failures.

In my first role, I was “fired” by my boss for a big boo-boo. In my next job at GE, I was put into a role that was a huge challenge for me. I failed initially but did not give up and ultimately succeeded.

In my third role, I was sent to the city of Dallas to work on integrating an acquisition. I completely failed in this role.

In fact, I lost US$20mil on a project that I was tasked to handle which never saw the light of day. Failures were common in my next few roles too.

But in each failure, I learnt valuable lessons. And ultimately, when GE sent me back to Asia to help turn around a troubled entity, all these failures helped me ensure we quickly and efficiently turned around this company.

As I look back, I realise that these failures were intentionally designed for hi-potentials to accelerate our development.

So, making mistakes early in your career actually benefits the organisation in the longer run. Organisations that built career systems which embraced failure as part of its development process, ultimately became big leadership engines, producing world-class leaders.

My brother’s story illustrates why companies should build failure into the development of their employees.

When he was young, he found the cocoon of a butterfly. He took it home and a few days later, a small opening appeared. He was thrilled and sat watching the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through the little hole. After awhile, he noticed that the butterfly stopped making any progress and it appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no farther.

My brother decided to help the butterfly with a pair of scissors by snipping off the remaining bit of the cocoon. And with his help, the butterfly then emerged.

But the story does not have a happily-butterfly-after ending. The butterfly that emerged had a swollen body and shrivelled wings. My brother continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that at any moment, it would expand its wings and fly off. But that never happened.

In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and deformed wings. It never was able to fly.

My brother had not understood then that the restricting cocoon and the struggle to go through a small opening was God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings to prepare it for flight.

The same can be said for building leaders. In our kindness to help our employees, we shield pain and failure away from them.

Personally, I believe that if someone wanted to succeed quickly, he or she needs to experience as many failures as possible in the shortest possible time.

So, if you are a leader reading this, let your employees fail. In fact, create opportunities for your employees to learn through their failures.

But don’t just stop there. Share stories of your mistakes and failures with your employees. And then watch them grow and develop into majestic butterflies. Go on, let your people fail!

Greetings,

Long time no word from me huh. Just like the past times, busy with some school stuff. Hey, you all already know about the result of SPM 2008 right? Yeah, Munesh got 15 1A! One of the best student from my school (SMK Ibrahim). Proud of him.

For a past few weeks, I received a few email from the readers. Thank you for sending me those email and keep it coming. A few of the requested me to write my blog in Malay language and asked my why am I writing this in English while I'm a Malay guy? Here's the answer. I don't know why am I writing this in English. Actually my question is How Many Times Your Opinion Rejected When You Asked To Give Opinion? Come on man, rejected when asked to give opinion? It's just opinion. I believe it's kinda normal to Malaysian especially high school students. Even in monthly exam paper, the question is "Give your opinion on why did this person did this in the novel." And guess what, I got wrong for that question! Can you believe that!? I just give my own opinion when asked and the marker said it was wrong. What the "CORRECT" answer? I mean, you asked my opinion and then you want to say that my opinion is wrong? That's just too ridiculus.

I was searching about upgrading my graphic card. Because mine is already dated. It's NVidia GeForce 8600GS. I'm planning to upgrade it to GeForce 9800 series or GeForce 8800 series. So, I searched at Lowyat.net to see weather those Graphic card is compatible with my EG31M motherboard or not and some people there told me that if I'm planning to upgrade my graphic card, I need to upgrade the PSU too because my current PSU only support the manufactured hardware only.

For the recommendation of the PSU, I go to Yahoo! Answers. In just a few minutes, I already got really good responds. I mean respondS. Not respond. That's the power of community. If not because of them, my PC will probably explode or I just waste hundreds of RMY buying good Graphic Card with no supported PSU.

I've learned a lot from online community. When my friends ask me something about tech, "How did you know that?". My answer, experiment (on my own) and online community. Not only that, much of my previous problem is solved by the online community.

Streamyx Is BAD?

Hey people. I have a BIG problem with Streamyx this month. I pay RM77/month for 1MBps internet connection with unlimited access time and guess what? I only can connect to the internet just for a week in a month! Not just that, when I'm back online, I did a speed test. See the result below:

I just got about 62% of my connection actual speed. When I call the Customer Service Center, the operator said "We currently have problem with the underground cable. You might experience the slow connection. Sorry for the problem sir". OK. Now i understand what's the problem. But about 1 hour later, the DSL light on my modem started to blinking and I can't connect to the internet anymore for another 2 weeks. Everyday, I keep calling the Customer Service Center asking the same question "What happened to my connection?" And I got the same answer each time I called. "Our technician is trying to fix this problem" the operator said. I replied "At the time I report this problem you said this problem will be fixed in 2 days but now it's already 2 WEEKS". The guy said "We'll try to fix this problem ASAP".

It's really annoying actually since this is not the first time it happened to me. If any TM workers read this, sorry to say, from the bottom of my heart, I think you have a lot to do to improve your service. I already started to think to change my ISP. Anyone having any problem with streamyx?

It's holiday people! Wake up! Don't just sit in front of your PC or TV. Do some outdoor activity. For all the prefect which will be going to Kem Waja Diri 2009, prepare for the worst! Lol.

Many people ask me what to do with their 'unstable' friendster account? I DON'T KNOW. Ask friendster. Don't ask me just because because I used to solve your PC problem. Ask me about other things. No friendster, at least for now. Why not try other social networking services like Facebook or MySpace. Give it a try. Maybe you'll feel better... or not. Who knows. Just try all new things around you.

Erm...talking about trying new things, last Saturday, there was a futsal competition near to my house. We want to experience something different this holiday season. So, I and Khairullah came out with a 'brilliant' idea. Selling drinks. We setup a small stall near to the registration table. First 20 minutes, there was 4 people came and bought our drinks. Pretty good for first timer huh... Next 1 hour, 2 people come, and next 2 hours 6 people come. I'm kinda feeling bad to sit there waiting for customer. By the end of the day, we only got RM15. Haha... Kesian. But the thing that I wanted to focus here is not about the RM 15, it about the experience being a young business man. You can't buy that experience eventhougt you parents can give you a lot of money. Think about it.

p/s: From the begining, we didn't search for money, we search for experience.

Bill Gates' Mysterious New Company...

Just months after his Microsoft farewell, Bill Gates is quietly creating a new company -- complete with high-tech office space, a cryptic name and even its own trademark.

Public documents describe the new Gates entity -- bgC3 LLC -- as a “think tank.” It’s housed within a Kirkland office that the Microsoft co-founder established on his own after leaving his day-to-day executive role at the company this summer.

Is this Bill Gates’ next big business? A Gates insider gives an emphatic no -- saying it’s not a commercial venture but rather a vehicle to coordinate the software mogul’s work on his business and philanthropic endeavors.

However, bgC3 will also oversee Gates’ personal pursuit of breakthrough ideas in science and technology. The insider said the goal isn’t necessarily to create new companies, although ideas could be passed along to Microsoft, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation -- or others – as it makes sense.

Whatever the ultimate role of the company, the circumstances surrounding its creation provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the new era of Gates’ life.

State records show that the company, originally called Carillon Holdings, was established in March 2008. It formally changed its name to bgC3 in early July, 10 days after Gates left his full-time job at the company he built into an industry giant. He remains Microsoft’s chairman and continues to work part-time on projects.

The records describe bgC3 as a “holding company” headquartered in Kirkland –a relatively short, picturesque drive from Gates’ home on Lake Washington.

Federal trademark filings provide more clues – describing bgC3 as a think tank, under a generic trademark classification that corresponds broadly to areas including "scientific and technological services," "industrial analysis and research," and "design and development of computer hardware and software."

But what does bgC3 mean? The logical assumption might be “Bill Gates Company Three” – his third enterprise after Microsoft and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. But that’s only partially right, according to the Gates insider.

The “bg” is Bill Gates, the insider says, but the “C” stands for “catalyst.” The idea is that Gates will play that role as he brings together new people and ideas. The “three” reflects the notion of a third place, apart from Microsoft and the foundation.

Before beginning his transition this summer, Gates told reporters that he would focus full-time on the foundation, and part-time on selected Microsoft assignments.

He acknowledged plans for his own office in Kirkland, apart from Microsoft and the foundation, but didn't discuss specifically any plans to organize that office under a new company. At the same time, he said he would be open to personally supporting breakthrough ideas where he sees a chance to advance the state of mankind.

It's not clear exactly where those interests will lead, or precisely what role bgC3 will play in the long run. But Gates, who turns 53 next week, has increasingly expanded his focus beyond Microsoft to problems of technology, science and society.

Much of that broader focus has come through the Gates Foundation, which deals in issues of education and global health. People associated with Gates say he is still expected to focus primarily on the foundation in this new era of his life.

But particularly at a time of economic turmoil, Gates' status and wealth could put him in a position to bring in top scientists and other notable people to work with bgC3. Gates has historically surrounded himself with smart people, and he’s famously thirsty for knowledge. His interests go well beyond computer science into fields as disparate as energy, biotechnology, and global economics.

The concept of a technological think tank wouldn’t be new to Gates. He has taken part in high-powered brainstorming sessions organized by his friend, Nathan Myhrvold, Microsoft's former chief technology officer, who now heads a company called Intellectual Ventures LLC, based in Bellevue. Projects that Gates is backing through Myhrvold include an effort to create an alternative nuclear reactor that produces clean power without waste or proliferation.

Whatever its aims, the new Gates organization doesn't appear to have ambitions of becoming another behemoth. In a letter last year to a Kirkland city official, a Gates representative wrote that total occupancy would be limited to between 40 and 60 people, including employees and visitors, in the space that bgC3 now occupies.

At the same time, it’s no ordinary office space. Visitors say it’s fully stocked with Microsoft technologies, including a Surface tabletop computer with a virtual guestbook application.

Some of bgC3’s activity has been recent. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark database, the company filed Sept. 29 for federal trademarks on "BGC3" and the "C3" logo. The latter (pictured above) is an intertwined "C" and "3" in block letters.

The Microsoft chairman has established companies before to serve specific purposes, primarily behind the scenes. Watermark Estate Management Services LLC oversees many of Gates’ personal and family matters, and Cascade Investments LLC oversees his stock and other financial holdings.

Several of Gates’ associates are named in the documents tied to bgC3, although Gates himself isn't identified by name in public records associated with the company – a main reason its existence hasn't received media attention until now.

Hello guys. Sorry for the delay of the post. Just like normal, always busy with the real world stuff. Anyway, Happy Aidil Fitri to all reader and visitors. I guess it's not too late. We are still in Syawal right? As I observe the way people behaving their self(I like to observer people), I wonder why most(almost all) people stops eating dates whenever its not Ramadhan? Have any answer? As what I know, Rasullullah S.A.W eat Dates every single day of his life (healthy diet). Not just in Ramadhan.

As most people know, Dates can supply a lot of nutrients in our body, and our body absorb the nutrients in the Dates fastest compered to any other fruit. I don't want to explain further about this fruit because you just need to Google it to get more information on this special fruit. Try to make eating Dates as your habit. That's all for now. Salam.

What Can You Do In One Minute?

This post is gonna be a bit long. Just read it. It may change your life.

Question: In our offices and workplaces we can hardly find time to do acts of worship and righteous deeds. What can we do in the short time that we can find in our day? How can we make use of it?

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

Time is of the essence, it is too precious to be wasted or neglected. The wise person is the one who pays attention to his time and does not treat it as a vessel to be filled with cheap things and vain talk. Instead, he limits it to worthy efforts and righteous deeds that please Allaah and benefit other people. Every minute of a person’s life carries the potential to raise his own status and to make his people happier, little by little.

If you are keen to attain the highest position, and bring the most happiness to your people, then forget about relaxing and keep away from empty amusement.

In one minute you can do a lot of good and earn much reward. In just one minute, by giving in charity, studying, memorizing, or striving to do good deeds, you can make sure that this minute of your life is not wasted. One minute may be recorded in your book of good deeds if you know how to make the most of it and take care of it:

Strive to make the most of each minute

If you forget it, you forget the most important thing, the truth.

There follows a list of things that can be done in one minute, by the permission of Allaah:

1. In one minute you can recite Soorat al-Faatihah 3 times, reciting rapidly and silently. Some scholars said that the reward for reading al-Faatihah is more than 600 hasanahs, so if you read it 3 times you will, by the permission of Allaah, gain more than 1800 hasanahs – all of that in one minute.

2. In one minute you can recite Soorat al-Ikhlaas (Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad) 20 times, reciting rapidly and silently. Reciting it once is equivalent to one-third of the Qur’aan. If you read it 20 times it is equivalent to reading the Qur’aan 7 times. If you read it 20 times in one minute each day, you will have read it 600 times in one month, and 7200 times in one year, which will be equal in reward to reading the Qur’aan 2400 times.

3. You can read one page of the Book of Allaah in one minute.

4. You can memorize a short aayah of the Book of Allaah in one minute.

5. In one minute you can say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god except Allaah alone with no partner; to Him be dominion and praise, and He is Able to do all things) – 20 times. The reward for saying this is like freeing 8 slaves for the sake of Allaah from among the sons of Ismaa’eel.

6. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaahi wa bi hamdihi (Glory and praise be to Allaah) 100 times. Whoever says that in one day will be forgiven for his sins even if they are like the foam of the sea.

7. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaahi wa bi hamdihi Subhaan Allaah il-‘Azeem (Glory and praise be to Allaah, glory be to Allaah the Almighty) 50 times. These are two phrases which are light on the lips, heavy in the balance and beloved to the Most Merciful, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.

8. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When I say ‘Subhaan Allaah, wa’l-hamdu Lillah, wa laa ilaah ill-Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar (Glory be to Allaah, praise be to Allaah, there is no god except Allaah, and Allaah is Most Great)’, this is more beloved to me than all that the sun rises upon.” (Narrated by Muslim). In one minute, you can say all of these words more than 18 times. These words are the most beloved words to Allaah, the best of words, and they weigh heavily in the balance of good deeds, as was narrated in the saheeh ahaadeeth.

9. In one minute you can say, Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa Billaah (there is no strength and no power except with Allaah) more than 40 times. This is one of the treasures of Paradise, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim. They are a means of putting up with difficulties and of aiming to achieve great things.

10. In one minute you can say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah approximately 50 times. This is the greatest word, for it is the word of Tawheed, the good word, the word that stands firm. If these are the last words of a person, he will enter Paradise, and there are other reports which indicate how great these words are.

11. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaah wa bi hamdih, ‘adada khalqihi, wa ridaa nafsihi, wazinata ‘arshihi, wa midaada kalimaatihi (Glory and praise be to Allaah, as much as the number of His creation, as much as pleases Him, as much as the weight of His Throne and as much as the ink of His words) more than 15 times. This words bring many more times the reward for other forms of tasbeeh and dhikr, as was reported in saheeh ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

12. In one minute you can seek the forgiveness of Allaah more than 100 times by saying “Astaghfir-Allaah (I seek the forgiveness of Allaah). The virtues of seeking forgiveness are no secret, for it is the means of attaining forgiveness and entering Paradise, and it is the means of being granted a good life, increasing one’s strength, warding off disasters, making things easier, bringing rain and increasing one’s wealth and children.

13. You can say a few brief and concise words in one minute, and Allaah may bring about some good through them that you could never imagine.

14. In one minute you can send blessings on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) 50 times by saying Sall-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (May Allaah bless him and grant him peace). In return Allaah will send blessings upon you 500 hundred times because one blessing brings ten like it.

15. In one minute you can motivate your heart to give thanks to Allaah, to love Him, to fear Him, to put hope in Him, to long for Him, and thus travel through the stages of ‘uboodiyyah (total enslavement to Allaah). You could do this when you are lying on your bed or walking in the street.

16. In one minute you can read more than two pages of a useful book that is easy to understand.
17. In one minute you can uphold the ties of kinship by calling a relative on the phone.

18. You can raise your hands and recite any du’aa’ you wish from the books of du’aa’, in one minute.

19. You can say salaams to and shake hands with a number of people in one minute.

20. You can forbid an evil action in one minute.

21. You can enjoin something good in one minute.

22. You can offer sincere advice to a brother in one minute.

23. You can console someone who is depressed in one minute.

24. You can remove something harmful from the road in one minute.

25. Making the most of one minute motivates you to make the most of other periods that would otherwise be wasted.

Al-Shaafa’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

When people go to sleep, I let my tears flow, and I recite a verse of the most eloquent poetry

Is it not a waste that nights go by and I do not increase in knowledge, yet this time is counted as part of my life?

Finally, the more sincere you are towards Allaah and the more aware you are of Him, the greater will be your reward and the more your hasanaat will increase.

Note that most of these actions will not cost you anything; they do not require tahaarah (purity) and they will not tire you out or take much effort. On the contrary, you can do them whilst you are walking, or in your car, or lying down, or standing, or sitting, or waiting for somebody.

These actions are also among the greatest means of attaining happiness, expanding the chest (i.e., bringing relief and joy) and removing stress and anxiety. May Allaah help us and you to do that which He loves and which pleases Him. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad.

Rocket Explosion Seconds After Launch...

While space travel is safe for the most part, sometimes things go really wrong. Like last week's NASA's rocket explosion on the Wallops Island, where an ATK Launch Vehicle X-1 exploded only seconds after liftoff, with hazardous debris falling on land and sea. We are used to seeing the fireworks in the air, but what happens when that flaming debris hits the ground is much more spectacular and scary, as you can see in this video.

The rocket in the video is a Delta II launched by the USAF in 1997 to carry a 45 million dollar GPS Block IIR satellite to orbit. For sure, this Delta II variant is a much more powerful rocket than the 53-foot ATK Launch Vehicle X-1: At 127 feet, the Delta II 7925 is a 7000-Series (7) with nine boosters (9) and three stages—the second one a restartable Aerojet AJ10 engine (2) and the third one a payload assist module (encoded as 5 in the model number).

So today we're releasing the beta version of a new open source browser: Google Chrome.

On the surface, we designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple. To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff - the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go.

Under the hood, we were able to build the foundation of a browser that runs today's complex web applications much better . By keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox", we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. We improved speed and responsiveness across the board. We also built V8, a more powerful JavaScript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers.

This is just the beginning - Google Chrome is far from done. We've released this beta for Windows to start the broader discussion and hear from you as quickly as possible. We're hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and we'll continue to make it even faster and more robust.

We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we're committed to continuing on their path. We've used components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among others - and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.

The web gets better with more options and innovation. Google Chrome is another option, and we hope it contributes to making the web even better.

What To Blog About? How?

For a past few days, I'm wondering what will be my next topic for the blog post. Is it going to be about gaming, software, hardware, internet or tech stuff. While I'm mumbling around with myself, my sister came in. Then she said to me "why not you write post about your daily problem?". "Don't you have your own work to do?". A moment later, I realize that what she said was right. A couple of minutes later, I came out with an idea.

My idea is what you are reading now (or in the title). The problem come to me daily. The key to make a good blog post is to stick to the 5W 1H (which is WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHO and HOW). It's really easy and simple actually. Most bloggers make mistake when writing a post (just like me before). What will they normally do when writing a blog post or having the same problem as I was is sitting in front of the computer and think what to write about. Do you think that's the right way of writing blog? No. You should get out from your house (or your room at least) to explore the 'world'. By doing this, you can blog about anything that happened to your life.

For instance, one day you get out from bed and going to the park for a short jogging session. You saw a spectacular scenery on that morning, you can blog about it. And don't forget that camera is important. Keep the camera with you all the time (accept when you are in the toilet) If you brought a camera at that time, take a snap shot of it and that would be nice when you upload the picture together with your blog post.

A good (or 'unboring') blog post will have some video, pictures, screenshot, link or even logo as eyecandy with it. Not music please! Readers want to concentrate on their reading. Music of course can disturb them (accept that if your blog post is about music).

Will computers ever use DNA instead of silicon chips?

No, it won't happen. Even the people who are working on ways to make DNA perform calculations cannot see it happening. Take Professor Andrew Ellington at the University of Texas at Austin, who said: "I think my general opinion about DNA computing is not 'no' but 'Hell, no'."

So, how come some people believe that the future of computing lies in the molecule that provides the blueprint for how living creatures are made?

It started in the 1990s when Leonard Adleman, of the University of Southern California, came up with a way to use DNA to solve one of computing's most difficult and complex tasks: the travelling salesman problem.

This tries to find the most efficient way to visit a set of cities so that you pass through each one as few times as possible - ideally, only once. Adleman worked out that the paths between cities could be coded into DNA.

If a path between two cities matched, those DNA strands would stick to each other. Eventually, lots of strands would match up to produce a list of cities in DNA, packed into a classic double helix. Just shaking up a test tube full of those different DNA strands did the job. It was the ultimate parallel processor.

The idea of the DNA computer got another boost in the last month when Japanese scientists succeeded in making a type of DNA out of molecules not found in nature. People pointed to the fact that you could pack thousands of exabytes into the volume of a drop of water with regular DNA. Artificial DNA could, potentially, store even more.

Making all that DNA is another matter, however. In a silicon-based computer, the transistors that do the calculations are re-usable. You just load up another program and feed it to them. With a DNA computer, you have to make a complete new set of DNA strands each time. It's a new computer every time you want to calculate something. And making artificial DNA is not at all cheap.

It gets worse. DNA computing only looks fast because things can happen in parallel. But the reactions themselves are very slow, and the process only works if you can tolerate errors, said Ellington. Not only that, it's hard to work out what the answer was: there is no easy way to wire up DNA to the other parts of a regular computer.

That does not mean there are no ways to use DNA in calculations. Instead of trying to recreate computers, researchers aim to use DNA in simple biological machines: in principle, they could use DNA logic to administer drugs only to specific cells.

"DNA computers can manipulate matter: chemistry is their world," said Zack Booth Simpson, a software engineer and molecular biology researcher at the University of Texas. But when it comes to manipulating digits, silicon is likely to keep its edge into the foreseeable future.

Web Tablet for only $200...

TechCrunch is asking its readers to help them design a web tablet costing just under $200. They claim that there does not yet exist a cheap and usable web tablet designed for things like browsing, web conferencing, mail, chat, and VoIP. Here are some of the specs they are asking for:

* thin as possible
* touch screen (except for power button)
* WiFi
* video camera and low-end speakers
* 4 Gigabyte hard drive
* 1/2 Gigabyte of RAM
* Linux and Firefox (in kiosk mode)
* no desktop interface

We are not completely sure that this device does not exist in some form. Tablets have been around for a while and many cover most of these features. Consider the Nokia N800 or the Pepper Pad.

We also think the TechCrunch readers, who generally concern themselves with what they can buy rather than what they can make, are not really the best crowd for this job. Considering our reader's abilities to do things on the cheap, we thought we would pose the question ourselves with our own spin. What old and cheap hardware could you re-purpose to create this product?

ATI's Nvidia GeForce GTX 280-Killer Is Water-Cooled, Super-Powered...

ATI's probably pretty mad Nvidia stole some of the excellent mid-range Radeon HD 4850's thunder by dropping the GeForce 9800 GTX+ for a mere $30 more. So they're hitting back with a special Radeon HD 4800 card designed solely for the crushing of Nvidia's top-of-the-line GTX 280 graphics card in pure performance.

Code-named "Super RV770," it has pre-installed water-cooling and an unlocked BIOS so you can push the core speed to 950MHz (maybe beyond 1GHz) with a memory bandwidth of 150GBps, even more than the GTX 280.

Diamond's Radeon HD 4870 XOC Black Edition is actually the first "Super RV770" card, though it's not clocked quite as high as AMD's super spec. TG Daily expects announcements from other ATI partners like Asus and Sapphire to be coming up shortly. Of course, this is all talk 'til we see some benches.

Do I need a particular webcam ?
We successfully tested BananaScreen with most of the recent (<2 years) webcams. If you encounter a compatibility problem with a webcam, please post a message in this forum with a detailed description of the webcam. They will try to fix the problem as soon as possible and keep you aware.

Which operating system is needed to run BananaScreen?
BananaScreen has been tested on Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) and Windows XP (Service Pack 2). The team are currently working on a MacOSX version which will be delivered soon!

What about privacy ?
No picture is stored on your harddrive nor transmitted on internet. Only your face model is locally stored. This model is based on some statistics of your facial features and is saved in a binary format which cannot be read by third parties.

Go Green Use a Laptop, and Let It Nap

With today’s push to go green did you know that by Replacing your desktop and monitor with an efficient laptop displaying the Energy Star logo, and then setting it to go to sleep when you’re not using it, can save about 500 pounds of carbon dioxide every year.

This one simple change can have a dramatic impact on the emissions of the so called green house gases that we all contribute to. For most of us making this change today does not mean that you will have to give up any performance as laptops today are as efficient as the desktops as far as performance and speed.

What about all my accessories you may ask; well today’s laptops have addressed this as well since many of them now come with multiple ports for all the accessories that you may want or need. If you have more accessories then you have ports there are a number of different adapters on the market that will allow you to expand one port into a hub where you are able to add numerous connections.

Today you can purchase laptops that have the same if not larger size hard drives as a desktop computer does. The speed of the laptop computer now compares with the desk speed as well. Video editing, large complex files, working over the internet, networking, copying and writing CDs and DVDs can all be done on the laptop computer and at some remarkable speeds I might add. Having the ability to network may allow many of use to work from home even if it is only one day per week we could further reduce the amount of gases produced by not jumping in our car and traveling 30 to 50 mile to work that day.

And when you add to the fact if you use multiple as many of use do today you now have the freedom to roam from room to room and be just as productive as if you were setting at your office desk the Idea of switching from a desktop to a laptop becomes even a more attractive option.

Today’s laptops have screen sizes ranging from 12 inches up to 20 inches. The clarity of the laptop screen has been improved dramatically over the last several years and you no longer have to have the screen sitting just a the right angle in order it be able to view the screen.

Switching from a desk top to a laptop is a very good way to improve your productivity while at the same time help in lowering the amount of green house gases that you contribute to each year. Lets all do are part in the effort of reducing green house gases that we produce and help keep our planet green!

Can you imagine if every one that is currently using a desktop were to switch to a new energy star compliant laptop what this one simple change would have on the amount of green house gases produced each day could be? Sure even this extraordinary amount is only a fraction of the total daily gases produced but it is a step in the right direction.

As we see the air quality continue to diminish through out our communities and global warming continues isn’t it about time we start doing are part in reducing the amount of green house gases that we contribute on a daily basis. We only have the one chance to make a difference and if we pass it by the outcome does not look to promising.

Going green does not mean we have to give up on different aspects of our life it does mean that we need to stop and think as to how we can make a difference in our world today. Making a few simple changes into how we each live our lives and how we accomplish are daily task can and will help save our planet if we just think first.

Let's face it: the time navigation bars on Youtube videos can be frustrating. A time bar shows you how far through a video you are, but since we rarely note the time a frame of interest appears, honing in on one can be difficult.

Pierre Dragicevic , a computer scientist at the University of Toronto in Canada, agrees. His research team has developed a rather nifty, high-precision alternative.

Instead of moving a navigation bar to find the point of interest in a video, their DimP software lets users drag the content itself. The video above gives some fine examples of the software in action, and you can download a free trial version here. Windows users only.

Possibly the most impressive feature is DimP's ability to focus on the perceived motion of objects while ignoring general camera movement. Skip to to the two-minute mark for an example. The original video shows an upwards camera sweep, but this motion is automatically removed when a user wants to follow the movement of one car alone.

It would be interesting to know if that extra manipulation comes at a memory cost. According to Dragicevic's paper, DimP analyses each video loaded into it and generates a separate motion data file, and I suppose those could be quite large - especially for busy videos. And it could take a while to produce. If anyone does give it a go, let us know what you think.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bill Gates, chairman of software powerhouse Microsoft Corp, made a five-minute virtual appearance at World Congress on Information Technology 2008.

A 15ft holographic projection of the billionaire enthralled the 400-strong audience at the congress on Monday, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The image was shot in high-definition and projected in high-definition onto a plastic foil that was stretched out in the centre’s Plenary Hall.

The result was certainly lifelike and impressive. The crowd applauded the effort.

Microsoft claims this is the first holographic appearance of Gates in the world. Making it happen involved rendering a pre-recorded image of Gates with speech that was filmed in Seattle, in the United States, two weeks ago.

Rendering work was done by local entertainment company Fat Boys Records Sdn Bhd which involved about a dozen specialists.

The holographic Gates spoke about the wonders of computing power, and how it is growing and creating more opportunities worldwide.

“There are one billion people (in the world) who have a personal computer each but there are five billion others who don’t. Microsoft also wants to reach these people,” he said. — STEVEN PATRICK

We all know that the tiny Eee PC from Asus has been a runaway hit here in the US, however, what we don’t know is whether or not Asus can pull off the same feat with a similar desktop. They are willing to give it a shot, and here is what the new Eee Box should look like.

The specs on this machine are reasonable, featuring an Intel Atom CPU (Intel’s latest CPU aimed at mobile devices), 1GB of DDR2, 80GB of storage space and running Linux.

We’re not entirely sure of what price point they are trying to hit, but we will likely hear more when it is officially unveiled at Computex 2008.

Hey guys. I just only came back from playing Futsal(mini football) with my friends. After about 1 hour 20 minutes playing, I wanted to tackle one of my friend. Suddenly, his elbow hit my forehead. First 10 second I felt a bit dizzy, but after that ok. I was amazed to see to quantity of blood coming out. Hour later, I'm home. I took the picture of the cut just using my web cam. Tomorrow morning, I'll having a long journey to KL (Kuala Lumpur). As my experience from the past, it's very boring to just sit in the car. So, i decided to bring my laptop along so I can use it in the car. But then, 1 common question pop-up in my head. My laptop battery is going to live just about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Then, i did a research on how to enhance my laptop battery's life. So many tips and tricks that I've found over the internet. And finally, I make it simple and wanted to share it with you. This is the top 7 list on how to enhance your laptop battery life.

1. Sleep Is Good
Use the operating system's power-management features (in Windows XP, under Power Options in the Control Panel; or in Vista, under Mobile PC in the Control Panel) to set aggressive targets for when the display will go dark (say, after five minutes of inactivity) and when the machine will slip into sleep mode (no longer than ten minutes of inactivity). And if you can spare the extra time it takes for the machine to resume, set the PC to hibernate, not just sleep, when you close the lid.

2. Don't Be Performance Hungry
Unless you're running high-order mathematical calculations on that long plane ride, chances are you don't need all the processing power your CPU is capable of giving. So in Vista, select the "Power saver" power plan (found in the Control Panel, in the Power Options section) to extend battery life when on DC power, and leave the 3D gaming for when you're near an AC outlet.

3. Dim the Lights
Turn down the brightness of the LCD panel (via the Function-key combo, or in the Control Panel's Display Settings dialog) to the lowest level you can tolerate. The backlight sucks power like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

4. Banish Non-Essential Components
When you aren't actively using the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IR radios, turn them off (via the hard switch, if your PC has it, or in the appropriate utility set), so they don't trickle you dry trying to connect. Also, use USB-attached devices only when absolutely necessary. They aren't getting their power from positive ions in the air, you know.

5. Watch Scheduled Tasks
Be sure that your periodic virus scan is set to a time when you're usually plugged in; running a full-disk virus check keeps the hard drive and CPU fully engaged for the better part of an hour.

6. Lay Off the Multimedia
A little in-flight music is nice while you construct that PowerPoint presentation, but streaming music from your hard drive (or playing a CD) means the disk (or disc) is always spinning.

Stop the presses and prepare for the ultimate jaw-dropping. IBM has launched the world's fastest microprocessor even built. The new dual-core Power6 has a frequency of ...drums and fireworks... 4.7 gigahertz. Take that Intel!

As the press release says, at 4.7 GHz, the dual-core Power6 processor doubles the speed of the previous generation Power5 while using nearly the same amount of electricity to run and cool it.

The Power6 processor is built using IBM’s state-of-the-art 65 nanometer process technology and aside from the huge 4.7 frequency, it also scores another first. IBM says that this is the first UNIX microprocessor able to calculate decimal floating point arithmetic in hardware. "Until now, calculations involving decimal numbers with floating decimal points were done using software. The built-in decimal floating point capability gives tremendous advantage to enterprises running complex tax, financial and ERP programs", the company adds.

The Power6 chip includes additional techniques to conserve power and reduce heat generated by Power6 processor-based servers. Processor clocks can be dynamically turned off when there is no useful work to be done and turned back on when there are instructions to be
executed.

IMB also announced an ultra-powerful new computer server, the System p 570, which leverages the chip’s many breakthroughs in energy conservation and virtualization technology.

"The new server is the first ever to hold all four major benchmark speed records for business and technical performance", the press release mentions.

It appears that IBM’s new 2- to 16-core server is not too shabby either, since it offers three times the performance per core of the HP Superdome machine. And the main reason for this performance is the processor speed of the Power6 chip, nearly three times faster than the latest Itanium processor that runs HP’s server line.

IBM continues to compare its server to HP's and says that when it comes to processor bandwidth, the Power6 chip offers 300 gigabytes per second, enough to download the entire iTunes catalog in about 60 seconds; 30 times faster than HP’s Itanium.

Too bad Apple and IBM are no longer working together. I would have liked a Mac workstation powered by the Power6 monster.

I've found a new software to see your PC/notebook information that you don't know. really-really nice. trust me. i'd using it for a year right now. It's called CPU-Z.

CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.

CPU

* Name and number.
* Core stepping and process.
* Package.
* Core voltage.
* Internal and external clocks, clock multiplier.
* Supported instructions sets.
* Cache information.

Mainboard

* Vendor, model and revision.
* BIOS model and date.
* Chipset (northbridge and southbridge) and sensor.
* Graphic interface.

Memory

* Frequency and timings.
* Module(s) specification using SPD (Serial Presence Detect) : vendor, serial number, timings table.

System

* Windows and DirectX version.

1 more thing that makes this software even more nicer is you don't even need to install it! Just run from the .exe file.

What Is BETA?

Hey...Mudrikah is here... just a minutes after i posted the previous post i recieved a mail from visitors of 16mudrikah.blogspot.com. He asked me what is BETA. He heard this so many times. So, i'm here to explain it in simple word.

Basicly, the term "beta" refers to a piece of software or web application that's still being developed. After user uses the BETA software, usually the send feedback to the company.

Expect problems with betas and you won't be surprised, but enjoy the thrill of being among the first to use a new bit of software.

If you don't like those kinds of thrills wait until the software is "out of" beta.
